On Tuesday, November 9, 12 volunteers will graduate from an intensive six-week training offered by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office for the purpose of serving as chaplains to support the children, families, and staff of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley during times of crisis and through periods of trauma. Boys & Girls Clubs’ Chaplain Corps is a partnership between Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley and Knoxville Inner City Kids Outreach and will provide additional layers of care within Boys & Girls to support the emotional and social health of members. The initial focus for this group of volunteers will be with the following Clubs: Walter P. Taylor, Northridge Crossing, Montgomery Village, and Western Heights. Each of these Clubs will have a team of chaplains assigned to support their members , in addition to each chaplain serving within the Clubs’ programs regularly to develop meaningful relationships. The ultimate goal of this program is for every Club to have a trained chaplain team comprised of faith-based leaders from their local community. The initial team of chaplains is comprised of volunteers from eight local churches.

“What an honor to mobilize pastoral presence through our community Community Chaplain Corps. We are grateful to our partners (KCSO) for the excellent training getting us there,” said Michael Clark, Executive Director of Knoxville Inner City Kids Outreach.

The program was co-founded by Kelly McFadden, wife of BGCTNV President and CEO, Bart McFadden, and Michael Clark, Executive Director of Knoxville Inner City Kids Outreach. For more information please contact Kelly McFadden (kellymcfadden728@gmail.com) or Michael Clark (michael@kicko.org).
