The Village
Montgomery Village Boys & Girls Club
The Montgomery Village Boys & Girls Club (MV) proposes a business program for 8-12 teen members (6th-12th graders) to introduce teens to Money Matters. They will participate in an extensive year-long program to work as junior staff members at the Montgomery Village Club.
Members in this program will train from Sept-Nov as junior staff, and then work as a company from Jan-Mar to operate a store in the Clubhouse. As a team, they will be responsible to manage and operate a special store, called “The Village,” which will sell light snacks. Profits from the sales will support field trips for MV members, many of whom cannot normally attend these outings.
The Village focuses on guiding and supporting teen members across three major units on personal finance matters. The members will act as a village and share their sense of ingenuity, cooperation, and responsibility to demonstrate how a village can support children in their own housing project.
Goals:
- Bolster confidence and self-esteem
- Develop a sense of financial responsibility
- Provide support to the MV community, at large
