Regal Teen Center – Youth of the Month – March 2022

Meet Tyrik

“When Mr. Thomas asked me to participate in the Youth of the Year competition, I immediately agreed,” says 15 year-old Tyrik, a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley – Regal Teen Center. “It’s an honor to represent my Club and tell people about all the amazing things that happen here every day. I realized very quickly just how important this competition was, so I got really serious. I did my best to write essays that truly told my Club story and prepared a speech that I hoped explained to everyone just how much the Club means to me. Since I’ve been attending the Clubs since I was in 3rd grade, it was hard to cut my speech down to just three minutes – there was so much I wanted to share!

I certainly didn’t do all of this on my own. Everyone was there for me – my family, Mr. Thomas and Mr. Kelly from the Club, as well as all of the other Club members, who I also consider to be part of my family. While I didn’t win the competition this year, I’m very, very proud of myself for doing the best that I could and giving it my all. I definitely plan to participate in the competition next year and win! I know I can because of the love and support that I have at my Club.”
