“The Maker Space is my favorite spot in the Club,” says 9 year-old Grace, a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley – Middlebrook Club. “We get to learn how to cook in there and it’s so much fun. The most delicious thing we’ve made were these noodles that had lots of veggies cut up and placed on top. We had peppers, onions, mushrooms, and carrots on the noodles and let me tell you – it was the greatest thing I’ve ever tasted!
When I grow up I want to be a Chef and own a restaurant, where I can always change my menu to feature cool things that I’ve created in the kitchen. I know I’ll be able to be a Chef because I’m learning so much from the cooking lessons at the Club. Probably the most important thing I’ve learned is how to be safe when using knives. You don’t want to cut your fingers, so when dicing items, you should always put your fingers in a bear claw position, that way your fingers aren’t near the knife.”
