U.S. CELLULAR AND BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF THE TENNESSEE VALLEY ANNOUNCE FIFTH ANNUAL BLACK HISTORY MONTH ART CONTEST

Knoxville, Tenn. (Jan. 24, 2020) – Local U.S. Cellular associates joined Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley representatives on Jan. 22 to kick off the fifth annual Black History Month Art Contest. U.S. Cellular associates provided resources, and club members created original 8.5 x 11-inch pieces of artwork in recognition of influential African Americans, including historical figures, world leaders, athletes and celebrities. Ten finalists will be chosen and then displayed in U.S. Cellular stores in February, where the Knoxville community will be invited to vote for their favorites.

“This contest is a fun and educational way to celebrate our country’s diversity, and we look forward to seeing the talent and creativity that the kids bring to their art,” said Nathan Waddell, U.S. Cellular’s director of sales for East Tennessee. “It’s great to team up with the Boys & Girls Clubs to showcase youth in honor of Black History Month.”

The 10 finalists’ artwork will be chosen by representatives from the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley and local U.S. Cellular leaders based on creativity, quality, interpretation, clarity of theme and overall impression. Those creations will be displayed in select U.S. Cellular stores from Feb. 5-28, and anyone 18 and older is invited to visit a store and vote for their favorite. The top three vote-getters will be announced in March, and prizes include $250 for 1st Place, $150 for 2nd Place and $100 for 3rd Place.
