Meet Mikayla

“The Club encourages us to read,” says 10 year-old Mikayla, a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley – Middlebrook Club. “Right now we have a reading contest going on and everyone in the Club is challenged to read at least 20 minutes each day. After we reach 250 hours of reading as a group, we get to have a pizza party!

Each person also gets to collect individual points for reading, and you can exchange those points at our Club store for things like small toys and candy. Mr. Bryan encourages the kids that are really good readers to help out the other kids at the Club who might need a little extra help with reading. He says it’s important to always find ways to help others. Of course, when we do that – we both get rewarded with points! Visiting the Club store is nice, but what I really like is knowing that I’m helping my friends get better at reading!”
