It was a typical first day of school for Boys & Girls Club members, complete with new shoes and new backpacks.

For Boys & Girls Club members across Knox, Blount, Loudon and Anderson Counties, back to school time means more than just school, it means after school fun is back in area clubs. But for one club in Knoxville, it also means a place to cool down. Hundreds of club members arrived to the DeBusk facility for their first day to a surprise ice cream dance party. The party was to celebrate not only starting back school, but also Lowe’s Renovation Across the Nation program.

The DeBusk facility will receive a $50,000 grant from Lowe’s to replace the current heating and air at the Club. The grant is part of Renovation Across the Nation, a program between Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Lowe’s that provides one Club in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. with a grant and volunteer support from Lowe’s to complete much-needed improvements and renovations.

“Lowe’s is one of our organization’s great corporate partners through financial and volunteer support from multiple store locations. Their support helps our Clubs, especially our Halls/Powell Club, ensure that every child we serve has a safe, inviting space in which to come and the opportunities and relationships to reach their full potential. That, in and of itself, can be life-changing.” Bart McFadden, President & CEO.

The DeBusk Facility, one of 15 Club sites under Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley, was selected as the signature Club in the state of Tennessee for 2018. As the need to update facilities increases and maintenance costs rise, Lowe’s support will help the Club make critical improvements to ensure the Club remains a safe and inviting place for youth who need it most.
