KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) — The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley kicked off their annual fundraising campaign for the 2018 year on Wednesday evening. The celebration included live music performances and a special speech presentation by Local 8 News anchor Alan Williams.

At the event, the organization announced the annual campaign aimed to raise $9 million from donors across East Tennessee. The funds serve several counties’ clubs, including 6,000 kids who participate in programming provided by the organization.

The event also served as a kickoff for the organization’s 75th year in service.

Sam Furrow, former member of the Boys and Girls Club, said the organization had just finished up a year of big projects.

“We’ve just finished this major capital event here in Knoxville, we built a large facility, and all the other counties are improving their facilities,” Furrow said.

The funds used from this year’s fundraising events will serve operational purposes for the organization.

Other community officials, such as Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett, also attended the celebration Wednesday.
