Meet Skylar

“I’ve learned so much at the Club,” says 10-year-old Skylar, a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of Blount County. “We have a Cooking Club and I just love getting to join in on the fun! We have some volunteers from the community, like the chefs from Blackberry Farm, who come to the Club to teach us how to cook and then we get to eat our delicious meals. I think the most important thing that I learned in the Cooking Club was to make sure that chicken is not pink inside. If it is, you should not eat it and you have to cook it a little longer.

We had a cooking contest where we competed against other Clubs. It was really nice that my mom was invited to be a judge. Our team prepared a delicious meal of chicken alfredo with broccoli served with tasty stuffed pears for dessert. All of the judges loved our food and we were really proud of how we prepared a meal from scratch that people enjoyed eating.”
