More Than Just a Place to Go: Why We Stay Open When Schools Close
February 6, 2026
At Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley (BGCTNV), we often say that Tennessee Needs Club Kids. We believe that the future of our state depends on the success, health, and leadership of the next generation. But for a child to lead tomorrow, they need a safe place to grow today.
That is why we are thrilled to announce that registration is officially open for the 37th Annual Irwin Food City Bass Tournament! On Saturday, April 25, 2026, hundreds of anglers will gather at the Tellico Canal Ramp in Lenoir City for a day of competition, community, and commitment to our youth.
A Legacy of Impact
Founded in 1987 by Judge Tim Irwin and his father, presented by Food City, this tournament has become a cornerstone of our fundraising efforts. Over nearly four decades, this event has raised more than $1.5 million for our local Clubs.
Last year alone, the tournament raised an incredible $251,000. Those funds don’t just stay in a bank account—they go directly into our 27 Clubs across 6 counties (Knox, Blount, Loudon, Anderson, Claiborne, and Campbell), providing:
-
Academic Support: Targeted tutoring to help the 60% of Tennessee 3rd graders who aren’t yet reading at grade level.
-
Healthy Meals: Ensuring no child goes home hungry after a long day of learning.
-
Workforce Readiness: Funding programs like YouthForce that give teens the skills they need to enter the Tennessee workforce with confidence.
The $10,000 Hook
While the mission is the “why,” the tournament itself is a premier event for the angling community. We are proud to offer a $10,000 First Place Guaranteed prize. Whether you are a professional angler or a weekend enthusiast, this is your chance to fish on the beautiful waters of Lake Loudon and Tellico while supporting a vital cause.
