Build a Fort

Gather as many blankets, sheets and couch cushions as your household can spare. For this activity, get creative! A successful fort can be as simple as a single sheet between two chairs, or it can take up your entire living room!

As your new fort emerges, let it morph into a specific location. Remember, every story needs a setting. Are you in a castle? A dungeon? A magic cave? Perhaps a spaceship. Or a giant peach!

Once you’ve decided WHERE you are, then you can decide WHO you are. As you discover character, encourage your family members to join you. Remember, stories are the most fun to play when they have these THREE essential elements:

Setting

Example: Spaceship

Character/Relationship

Examples: Astronaut, Alien, Dog

Conflict/Problem

Examples:

  • “How do we land this thing?”
  • “We have to save the planet!”
  • “How did this dog get here?!”

Have fun and don’t be afraid to get a little silly!

The Getting-to-Know-You Challenge

For this activity you’ll need to involve your loved ones. It will work best with grandparents or parents, but siblings will do in a pinch! We all think we know our family and friends more than anyone else, right? But you’d be surprised at how much there’s left to uncover Play this game to spend some quality time with loved ones.

Start by asking your partner the first question. If they know the answer, great! Then they get a point. Then, they’ll ask you the same question. The first player to 10 points is the winner!
