Featuring First Lady Crissy Haslam!
Crissy moved to Knoxville in 1981 with her husband Bill Haslam. While working as the assistant director of admissions for UT-Knoxville, she received a Master of Science degree in Education in the program of College Student Personnel.
Since 2011, First Lady Crissy Haslam’s priorities have focused on encouraging parent engagement in education and reading proficiency for children. She has delivered this message through various initiatives, including First Ladies for Healthy Babies, Back to School Neighborhood Knocks, and the First Lady’s READ20 Book Club. She frequently travels the state with the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation in support of Tennessee’s Imagination Library, as well as lending her voice to the Tennessee Department of Education’s Read to Be Ready literacy campaign.
Launched in 2014, First Lady Crissy Haslam created the READ20 Book Patrol, a partnership with police and sheriffs offices across the state to provide books to children in low income communities and to encourage reading and support for local law enforcement.
She has served on numerous civic and community boards, and currently serves as chair of the Tennessee Executive Residence Foundation.
There will also be various vendors coming out to support the BGCTNV! This makes for a fun night of nail painting (KAB Nail Salon), dancing (On the One Dance Studio), make-up (MaryKay), jewelry making (Jewelry Television), yoga (Glowing Body Yoga), photobooth picture-taking (Thermocopy), Etiquette Table (Sherry Ailor & Focus Imaging) goody bags (Purses with Purpose), food, and more!
Female Club members will be matched with volunteers who will mentor them for the night and join in the various activities listed above.
The cost to be a mentor or sponsor a mentor is $50. Girls Night Out is hosted by Boys & Girls Clubs’ Knoxville Advisory Board. Proceeds will provide special opportunities for female Club members at each of the Clubs in Knox County!
PAY TO BE A MENTOR SPONSOR A MENTOR OR MENTORS VOLUNTEER
Please note that all mentors will be prompted to fill out an online volunteer form after registration. This is a policy that is in place for all volunteers who interact with our Club members. It’s for their safety! Thanks in advance for your help. We look forward to having you. Mentors have as much fun as the kids do!
