Bryan, a second grader at the Northridge Crossing Club, was entered into “The Insurance Professionals of Greater Knoxville” essay contest. They were given a topic (write about a time when you had to be brave. What did you do? How did it feel?) and were asked to write a short story about the time they were brave. This is the story…
A Time I was Brave
by Bryan Batiste, 2nd Grade
Northridge Crossing Boys & Girls Club
My little sister London and I went to the doctor. We weren’t scared. We knew we were getting shots but we didn’t know they were going to use big sharp needles.
When London saw the needle she started to cry. I felt bad for her. I was scared but I said, “It’s OK. I’ll go first.”
I was brave even though I was scared of that needle. I got my shot first. My mom held my hand and I cried. It hurt. I felt like I was being a good big brother.
He went on to be entered into the First and Second grade category. He ended up winning for the Regional competition, going on to ALSO win the National competition. In addition, he was awarded $150 for his essay! We are so proud of Bryan!
