KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Planet Fitness presented a check for $1,200 to Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley at its new Western Avenue grand opening celebration on April 30. During the month of April, the Planet Fitness on Western Avenue donated all sign-up fees to the Boys & Girls Club at Western Heights, one of the organization’s 19 Clubs which is located in public housing and serves 50 kids each day.
The grand opening celebration featured two celebrity guests, including Roberto Hernandez, winner of NBC’s The Biggest Loser Season 17 and Antone Davis, former UT Football All-American and contestant on Season 12 of The Biggest Loser. The family-friendly event included free food from a food truck, prize giveaways including UT football season tickets and tours of the 18,000 sq. foot facility. Boys & Girls Club members were there to help present the check and to participate in the festivities.
Planet Fitness recently announced its national partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the nation’s leading youth development organization. Local Planet Fitness Clubs have shown support for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley not only with this fundraising promotion, but through volunteering events. The Western Avenue staff will be volunteering once a month at the Boys & Girls Club of Western Heights.
“We are particularly fond of the kids at the Western Heights Boys & Girls Club,” said Planet Fitness Marketing Director Cambrie Gustafson. “We are thrilled to partner with this great organization and help young people understand the importance of physical activity and health.”
“We are really excited about this new relationship with Planet Fitness and all of the things they are doing for our kids here locally, said Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley’s Chief Development Officer Scott Bacon. “They are showing our kids how to have fun and be healthy at the same time.”
